Hosted and run by the Royal Motor Yacht Club Toronto, the regatta attracts sailors from around the lake and beyond.
This year’s Heaven Can Wait Regatta was held over the weekend of Saturday 20th – Sunday 21st February 2021.
Each year boats compete in a 24 hour regatta across a number of categories while raising funds in support of the Hunter branch of Cancer Council NSW. Marmong Point Marina would like to thank all the amazing teams of sailors and boats that competed and raised funds for a worthwhile cause in 2021.
The regatta is held across the full area of our beautiful Lake Macquarie with races run in parallel for various categories. One Lap Dash, Short One Lap Dash for Yachts, Multi hulls, Off The Beach boats and Trailer Sailers, 12 Hour Race, and 24 Hour race. Teams can enter one or more of the races with the exception of the Short One Lap Dash,
2021 marks the 15th year for the Regatta with more than $300,000 raised since the inaugural event.
Special thanks goes out to Mel Steiner and the Toronto RMYC team for their huge effort organising and running another successful Heaven Can Wait Charity Sailing Regatta on our beautiful Lake Macquarie. Our sincere thanks also goes out to the hard working and caring Lake Macquarie Marine Rescue team for their support over the weekend.
Heaven Can Wait Charity Sailing Regatta 2021
The event commences each year with a Friday evening dinner, special guest speakers, and a charity auction at RMYC Toronto overlooking the beautiful waters of Lake Macquarie. Racing starts Saturday morning and continues through Saturday night into Sunday. Marmong Point Marina GM David Randall represented the Marina for the Friday Dinner and Charity Auction and was on hand Sunday afternoon to assist the RMYC Team and Hunter Cancer Council with trophy presentation and the celebration of another successful event.
Funds raised assist with home care and support services for both terminal and recovering cancer patients. A small portion of the funds raised also goes to Lake Macquarie Marine Rescue, who kindly provide on water rescue support during the regatta.
